Authorities Say 'Attempted Abduction' Was Misunderstanding

After conducting multiple interviews based on tips from witnesses, Crime Stoppers and Nixle, and viewing surveillance video, police were able to locate the white van that was involved in yesterday’s incident.

Upon receiving further information from both the victim and the individuals inside of the van at the time of the incident, police have concluded that there is no indication that there was ever intent of a crime in this situation.

No charges will be forwarded to the D.A.’s office, and no arrests are planned at this time.

Topeka Police Release Monday

At approximately 12:30 this [Monday] afternoon Topeka Police Officers and Capitol Police Officers responded to a report of an attempted abduction at 10th and Topeka.

An adult woman was standing on the Southwest corner of 10th and Topeka by the crosswalk, waiting to cross the street. While she was waiting, a white van pulled up and the side door slid open. A man inside of the van held out his hand and attempted to reach for the woman.

The victim fled in the opposite direction and was able to get away without harm.

This case is currently under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact Detectives at 368-9400, or Crime Stoppers at 234-0007.

Be on look out for an older white mini-van, poss a Ford Windstar, involved with attempted abduction @ 10 & Topeka, Topeka. 4-5 blk males were involved & in vehicle. If you have any info contact Capitol PD or TPD
