KEMA Holds Awards Banquet

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - The people who keep you safe during disaster honored their own Thursday night.

The Kansas Emergency Management Association held an awards banquet as part of its annual meeting.

Among those recognized were Dustin Nichols of Shawnee County Emergency Management.

He received the "Randy Reinecker Instructor of the Year" award for his instruction across the state.

Dustin is one of the most requested training instructors and has also assisted in recruiting a number of other instructors to assist in rebuilding, according to a press release.

13's Melissa Brunner emceed Thursday's event, and since it's her birthday, she was surprised with a birthday cake!
