JUNCTION CITY, Kan. (WIBW) - A volunteer at Westwood Elementary in Junction City is making an impact on the education of other students.

Chelsey Dawson has spent almost every morning helping first through third grade students during the schools Rockin’ Readers program. As a fifth grader Dawson spends her time listening to younger students read stories and is there to help guide them through any difficulties.

"I help the kids like, listen to them, help them with more fluency and help them with clearing up words," said Dawson. "Why do I want to do this? Because it seems fun and I get to learn more new words as they read chapter books and other stuff and I get to meet new friends."

The Rockin’ Readers program is a before school reading program to help students complete their nightly reading homework.

Guest listeners are welcome to attend. The groups meet in the school library every morning from 7:40-8:15.
