JUNCTION CITY, Kan. (WIBW) -- A Junction City man is behind bars, charged in a deadly shooting at an apartment complex in Omaha, Nebraska.

LaMichael Fewell, 22, turned himself in at the Geary County Sheriff's Department Tuesday morning. Officials say he arrived with his mother to take care of a Municipal Court warrant but when authorities ran him through the system, it popped up that he was a fugitive from justice from Nebraska. He was arrested on Douglas County, Nebraska District Court Warrants for Probation Violation, Second Degree Murder and Use of a Firearm to Commit a Felony.

The Omaha Police Department say Fewell is responsible for killing Jer’ray Moore, 23, of Omaha.

According to a press release, on Saturday, April 6, 2013 at 4:05 p.m. Omaha officers received a radio call of a nature unknown at apartments on Underwood Avenue in Omaha.

Upon arrival, officers located Moore inside the apartment complex, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. He was transported to Creighton University Medical Center where he was later pronounced deceased.

Fewell remains in the Geary County Jail as he awaits extradition to Omaha.

A representative for the Omaha Police Department's Public Information Office could not comment on whether or not the suspect and victim knew each other or how police connected Fewell to the murder.

Geary County Sheriff's Department's arrest records indicate that Fewell is from Junction City but Omaha PD's PIO could not provide any information about why he was in Nebraska this past weekend.

The investigation into the murder continues, police said.
