URBANDALE, Iowa (WIBW) - Two homicide suspects were captured at a HyVee grocery store parking lot in Urbandale, Iowa west of Des Moines Thursday night around 10 p.m.

Jackson County Sheriff Tim Morse says Lloyd Wabaunsee and Desiree Shopteese were wanted in connection with killing 29-year-old Kevin Stanley in Mayetta Thursday, January 10.

In a news release, Sheriff Morse said both Wabaunsee and Shopteese were found in the trunk of a Chevy Impala by U.S. Marshalls and officers with the Urbandale, Iowa Police Department. He received a tip prior to the apprehension that Wabaunsee was in Iowa.
There were two other people found in the same car as Wabaunsee and Shopteese who authorities believe were aiding them.

Morse said Wabaunsee and Shopteese were found wrapped in blankets.

The other two were taken into custody - 36-year-old Rachel Dawn Hudson of Denison and 29-year-old Aaron Vance Lofton of Topeka. Both subjects are being held on Jackson County District Court Warrants for obstructing apprehension or prosecution. Bond for both Hudson and Lofton has been set at $25,000.

Aaron Lofton is well-known to Shawnee County Law Enforcement. In 2002 and 2003, he was involved in three separate aggravated robbery cases and sentenced to 6.5 years in prison. In 2011, he received a suspended sentence in a drug case.

Rachel Hudson was discharged from the Department of Corrections after serving a sentence from Atchison County on a 4th conviction DUI.

Both Hudson and Lofton will be transported back to Kansas.

Shopteese and Wabaunsee have refused extradition to Kansas. Her bond is set for $150,000 for a Jackson County warrant for second-degree murder. Wabaunsee is held for the same charge. His bond is set for $500,000. Wabaunsee had yet to make his first appearance in Polk County, Iowa court.

The Jackson County Attorney's Office is expected to request a governor's warrant to bring them back to Kansas.

Wabaunsee and Shopteese had been on the run for a week. Authorities were called to a shooting at the home Stanley rented at 206 James Street in Mayetta just after 10:30 pm Jan. 10. He died at the scene.

Authorities immediately named Wabaunsee as a suspect in the case. Then, Monday, authorities confirmed that Wabaunsee was believed to be with Shopteese. Shopteese was listed in the obituary for David Tiscareno as Tiscareno's fiance. He is the man charged with the murders of Corp. David Gogian and Officer Jeff Atherly Dec. 16. Tiscareno was shot and killed the next morning following a standoff with a KBI special response team.

Tiscareno and Wabaunsee are related.

Shawnee County Sheriff Herman Jones would not say if Shopteese was one of the two women in the car with Tiscareno when he shot the two officers.

Jackson County authorities are applying for a search warrant to process the Impala.

Lofton and Hudson are in the Jackson County Jail. A magistrate judge will see them separately on January 28 via video monitor from the jail. The judge will set a later date then for an in-person court appearance.
