TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW)-- The U.S. Postal Service made it official, the historic downtown Topeka Post Office will be on the market.

Topeka Mayor Larry Wolgast and Gov. Sam Brownback received official notice of the plan.

USPS officials announced earlier this month they'd relocate the services to a leased space in the downtown area, in an effort to reduce costs and increase efficiency.

The notice says they will market and sell the current building and adjacent parking lot.

It also says they will renovate the facility located at 1410 NW Gage Boulevard.

Services will continue in the current building until a new space is found.
