TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -- A scary ending to chase through the streets of Topeka early Tuesday afternoon. A pursuit that began in south Topeka came to a sudden conclusion when the fleeing car collided with an SUV, sending both drivers to the hospital.

According to police, the chase began near 24th Street around 1:40 p.m. when officers tried to stop a black Chevrolet Camaro. The driver, who has been identified as Anthony G. Vacchuillo, reportedly refused to stop and took off toward East Topeka.

The Camaro crashed into the SUV near at intersection of SE 4th Street and SE Golden Ave., flipping both vehicles. At least one of the drivers had to be extricated from the vehicle; both of them were taken to the hospital with what were described as non-life threatening injuries, police said.

The driver of the SUV was not identified.

Police continue to investigate. They have not said anything about possible charges.
