JUNCTION CITY, Kan. (WIBW) - The body of a duck hunter who drowned at Milford Lake last week has been recovered.

The Geary County Sheriff's Department says the body of 31-year-old Thomas Hedrick was found just before 1:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Hedrick, who was a soldier stationed at Fort Riley, was hunting on Christmas Eve when the boat he was in became stranded on the ice and he fell through.

Boats with enhanced side scan sonar, cold water dive teams and other supporters helped in the recovery effort.

Heckrick was from Thebes, Illinois, near Cape Giradeau, Missouri. His wife, Brandi, told CBS affiliate KFVS-TV that he had returned in November from deployment to Afghanistan. The couple had two children, ages six and seven.
