GREEN, Kan. (WIBW) - A house fire in northern Riley County drew the attention of several fire teams Tuesday morning.
Around 20 firefighters from seven stations responded to the 16,000 block of Fancy Creek Road, with Green in Clay County also assisting. First reports indicated that the entire home was on fire, however upon arrival it was discovered the fire was confined to a furnace.
"I got a call saying that the house was engulfed in smoke and she didn’t know what was going on," said Anderson Montgomery. "She was in panic mode, so she basically got out two little girls and got them out of the house trying to shut off everything she could on the way out not knowing what was causing the fire."
Crews were on the scene for about two hours with no injuries reported.
Damage was minimal, with roughly $1,000 damage to the furnace as well as minor smoke damage.
