TOPEKA, Kan (WIBW) -- Two sobriety checkpoints removed at least eight drunk drivers from Topeka streets during the holiday weekend, the Topeka Police Dept. said.
The Topeka Police Department said out of the 329 total vehicles that passed through their checkpoints, eight of those drivers were arrested for DUI and two more refused to submit to a breathalyzer....
In addition to busting suspected drunk drivers, the checkpoint also resulted in three citations for open container, one minor in possession, and one person was even charged with battery to a law enforcement officer.
Eleven people had suspended drivers licenses, five vehicles had expired tags and two people were found to have drug paraphernalia.
The check lanes were held between July 3rd and 5th at the 5000 block of Huntoon, the 1500 block of SW Gage, and the 100 block of south Topeka Blvd.
A total of 54 citations were written.
