TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - A piece of history re-surfaced in downtown Topeka Wednesday.
Crews dug in to the 800 block of South Kansas Avenue to uncover a set of trolley tracks.
They date back to the 1890s. Wednesday's work revealed that they're now encased in concrete, under a six-inch layer of asphalt.
Crews doing design work on the downtown revitalization project needed to see how the tracks would impact utility work.
Project manager Stan Meyers says the test and the heavy equipment it required is the first real sign the project is becoming reality.
The section revealed Wednesday will be recovered until construction begins in earnest this spring.
