PERRY, Kan. (WIBW) - Area students got a unique view of history Monday.
Reenactors from Lecompton's Constitution Hall, including Tim Rues as abolitionist James Lane and Lecompton Historical Society president Paul Bahnmaier, performed for Perry-Lecompton school district students.
Fifth thru eighth graders heard the real-life debate in crafting the Kansas Constitution and whether it would be a free state or slave state. The students were divided into groups to react to what they heard during the presentations as either a pro-slavery or anti-slavery person of the 1850s would have done.
The reenactors appearance was part of activities for Constitution Day.
