WASHINGTON -- Flipping through some of Kansas' oldest newspapers is now as easy as going online, thanks to the Library of Congress.
So far, 20 newspapers from six different regions have been put on the website.
The Wichita Eagle reported that the Library of Congress is working to digitize copies of 19th-century newspapers from 22 states and the District of Columbia.
One of the reasons Kansas was chosen for the project is because of the intense fighting in the state before the start of the Civil War.
The collection includes old issues of the Wichita paper as well as the Abilene Reflector, Dodge City Globe, The Iola Register, White Cloud Kansas Chief and Saline County Journal.
