TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - It will take a bit longer than expected for crews to complete demolition of the old Highway 24 bridge over North Topeka Boulevard.
The Kansas Department of Transportation initially allotted three day for the demolition when it began last Monday. They then anticipated finishing up the job this Monday, but now say it will take until at least Wednesday.
A KDOT spokesperson says it's a tedious process, involving hammering apart the concrete, then cutting out old steel rebar.
The entire project to replace the bridge and rebuild the cloverleaf interchange will last through November.
