Governor Unveils State Ornament

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - A Topeka university will take center stage in Washington, D.C. this holiday season.

Washburn University President Jerry Farley helped Gov. Sam Brownback and his wife, Mary, in unveiling the official Kansas Christmas ornament in a ceremony Monday at Cedar Crest.

The ornament features the Washburn University sesquicentennial celebration on the front and the Great Seal of Kansas on the back. The ornament will be displayed on the National Christmas Tree in Washington, D. C. Hand-woven wheat ornaments made by students at Quincy Elementary will also be featured on the Kansas tree.

The ornaments are for sale at the Kansas Historical Society Gift Shop, the Ichabod Shop, the Mulvane Are Museum Gift Shop and the Rally House/Kansas Sampler. They also can be found online at www.washburnbookstore.com. Retail prices is $24.
