Governor Brownback Announces New Kansas Mental Health Initiative

KANSAS (WIBW) -- Governor Sam Brownack is proposing a $10 million dollar initiative to boost mental health services.

The initiative would direct funding to what Brownback called the most at-risk and challenging mental health patients to meet their specific treatment requirements.

It won't target residents who are receiving services through Medicaid.

The state will set up seven mental health hubs to work with exisiting health centers.

The state's efforts will help uninsured residents.

Kansas spends $433 million on mental health-related services, but the governor said more needs to be done.
