Garage Fire Leads To The Death Of Family's Pet Dog

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW)_A local fire destroys property and leads to the loss of a family's pet dog.

Just before 7 Saturday evening, a family at the home on Southeast 6th and Southeast Burr, called the Topeka Fire Department when they noticed their detached garage had been engulfed in flames.

Fire Chief Thompson confirmed that the family's pet dog died while inside and no other injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is still being investigated, but the Fire Chief tells 13 News it may have been caused by the wood-burning stove inside the garage or the power cord leading from the house to the garage.

The fire brought 3 engines, 2 fire trucks and 2 chiefs, according to Fire Chief Thompson.

The cost of the damages will reach nearly $8,000 with $5,00 for the garage and $3,000 for the contents inside.
