EMPORIA, Kan. (WIBW) - The future of transportation was discussed during the Kansas Transportation Summit Thursday.

Governor Sam Brownback met with other business leaders in Emporia to discuss how the private and public sectors can work together for growth across Kansas.

The panel discussed the future of electric powered vehicles, software, safety, and traffic flow across the state.

They also sat down to map out a plan regarding the future of transportation.

"The next five years will bring about a lot of innovation based off of software and sensors that shift the human driver into a captain position, so we will become more aware of the situations around us as we're driving and operating our vehicles," said Garry Golden, futurist and keynote speaker.

Golden says by 2020 they're hoping to have more active assist vehicle options that will help people avoid collisions.
