Funeral Services Saturday For U.S. Customs Official, Topeka Native

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - Funeral services will be held Saturday morning in Topeka for a U.S. Customs Service official who lost his battle with cancer.

47-year-old Frank Jaramillo died January 29th. He graduated from Washburn University and Harvard Kennedy School of Business before starting his career with federal law enforcement. At the time of his death, Jaramillo was the Port Director of San Ysidro and Otay Mesa Points of Entry in San Diego, California. San Ysidro is considered the world's busiest land border crossing.

A family friend tells 13 News a Friday night prayer service brought customs officials from around the country, including the acting chief operations officer for the agency, who spoke of Jaramillo's accomplishments in developing the protocol for handling cargo at ports worldwide.

A funeral mass will be held at 10 am Saturday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. Interment will be held later in El Paso, Texas.

Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Jude Shrine in Baltimore, Maryland, or to the Sister Servants of Mary, sent in care of Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home, 800 SW 6th Ave., Topeka, KS, 66603.

Jaramillo is survived by his wife, Rosana Mora, as well as his parents, six siblings and other family members.
