TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -- Seniors can ride free on Wednesdays all month, Topeka Metro announced on Monday.

“Free Wednesdays in May is a great opportunity for our seniors to stay active, go shopping, and enjoy the beautiful spring weather while riding Topeka Metro," said Topeka Metro General Manager Susan Duffy.

The free rides are available to anyone 65 or older and apply to all its fixed-route bus routes. Vouchers or tickets are not required, but passengers may have to show their ID's.

“Our fixed-route bus service is an excellent means of transportation for Topeka seniors,” said Duffy.

The free rides come as the country marks Older Americans Month, celebrating the contributions of our nation's seniors, Topeka Metro said.

It pointed out that all of their fixed-route buses have a kneeling feature, which makes them easier to board. They all also have a wheelchair lift or ramp for riders.

For help planning trips or for route or schedule information your asked to visit their website or call Customer Service at 785-783-7000.
