CLAY CENTER, Kan. (WIBW) -- Smiles were everywhere in Clay Center on Friday!
The Clay Center Dental Mission was offering free dental care to those who couldn't otherwise get it. Dr. Rick Hammel, Dr, Dustin Kruse and their staff teamed up with volunteer dentists and hygienists for the annual goodwill event.
"We are blessed with the ability to give because we have ourselves been richly blessed," said Dr. Rick Hammel. "We have been doing mission dentistry in Belize for the past five years and have seen the need here at home."
"This is our way of giving back and helping those who are in difficult circumstances," he added.
Starting at 7:30 a.m., they provided exams, x-rays, simple fillings, extractions, and cleaning to uninsured and underprivileged adults. They were helped on a first-come, first-served basis and could start lining up as early as 5:30 a..m.
"This mission was a response to the prompting of the Holy Spirit on our hearts and recently we felt that we should also help local folks who have fallen on hard times," said Dr. Hammel. "The purpose is to serve the uninsured and underprivileged many of whom have no other way to afford basic dental care."
They said the Mission is funded by many local, regional, and national sponsors who donate money, time, and supplies.
