TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - An eastern Kansas sheriff and deputy are charged with felony interference with law enforcement operations following a five-month investigation.

Franklin County Sheriff Jeffry Curry and Deputy Jerrod Fredricks, who served as the agency's public information officer, were arrested Wednesday by the Kansas Bureau of Investigation. Curry is also charged with misdemeanor official misconduct.

The Shawnee County District Attorney's office announced the charges. The agency was appointed as the special prosecutor on the case.

Also Wednesday, the Franklin County Attorney filed an ouster petition. The Shawnee County DA's office will handle that matter as well.

Authorities declined to release any other information on the investigation or allegations which led to the charges. They say further details will be released at the men's first court appearances March 6th.
