TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW)-- Nobody was injured when a flaming baton started a small fire at a high school football game in Topeka Friday.
The baton was part of a routine by Beverly Bernardi midway through the Topeka High and Emporia game at Hummer Sports Park.
A small fire along the sideline was quickly dowsed using a cooler full of water. No injuries were reported but the mishap created a major buzz at the game.
Topeka Public Schools Communications Director Ron Harbaugh tells 13 News that little to no damage was done to the facilities or playing field at Hummer Park. All that will be needed he says, is a power washing.
