TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - Shawnee County Refuse curbside recycling service appears to be cleaning up so far.
Public Works Director Tom Vlach told commissioners Thursday that crew collected 50 tons of recyclables Monday, the first day of pickup. They took in another 35 tons Tuesday.
Vlach says the daily figures will likely go down, since customers had several weeks to fill their containers since they were dropped off and it will be two weeks between pickups in the future. However, he said it's a good indication of the positive participation.
Vlach says a major task now is meeting requests for smaller containers. He says the subcontractor who helped with delivering the initial containers is no longer on duty, so it's a small staff of one or two people trying to meet the requests. Vlach asked people to be patient if they're waiting for a smaller container to arrive.
