Investigators Say Fire Intentionally Set At Topeka Apartment Building

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - Authorities say that a fire was intentionally set inside a central Topeka apartment building Monday night.

Fire crews were on the scene around 8 p.m. Monday night after a fire was reported at the St. Gregory Apartments, 635 SW Harrison St.

First responders reported smoke coming from the north side of the building. Fire crews entered the building and found the origin of the fire on the second floor within the bedroom portion of apartment #208.
Crews extinguished the fire and kept it contained inside the apartment. Officials assisted with evacuating several occupants with one person suffering from minor smoke inhalation. That person was treated at the scene and released. No other injuries were reported.

Investigators estimate the loss to be $37,000.
