EMPORIA, Kan. (WIBW) -- Firefighters from multiple departments teamed up to fight a large grass which has spread from Lyon Co. into Coffey Co., according to the Lyon Co. Sheriff's Office.
At least one firefighter was injured battling that blaze, reported KVOE. Information about him has not been released.
A second fire also developed at 818 Road 140 in Lyon County around 4:00 p.m., they added. That fire destroyed a home and reached several other structures and vehicles, according to KVOE.
Emporia Fire Dept. and Olpe Fire Dept. have been working that fire. They have not said what caused the fire.
Crews have been fighting the grass fire, which is in the area of Road 200 and Road Y, since 2:30 p.m. on Thursday. Reading, Miller, Admire, Neosho Rapids/Hartford, Lebo, Americus, Waverley and Emporia Fire Departments are all assisting the Lyon Co. Emergency Management. KHP and Riley Co. have units en route too.
The Lyon Co. Sheriff's Dept. is urging people to be vigilant about fires and strongly discouraging lighting any on Thursday including in pits, burning trash or tossing a cigarette butt.
