TOPEKA, Kan. -- (WIBW) Fire crews quickly put out a blaze that broke out near a garage at a home in Southwest Topeka Tuesday morning.
Fire crews responded to a report of a structure fire at 3540 Southwest Wesparke Court at 12:47 a.m. Tuesday morning.
Authorities say the origin of the fire was to be in a large plastic trash can outside the home's attached garage. Crews had the fire out 20 minutes later. The garage sustained extensive fire and smoke damage. Residents were able to return to the home after firefighters put out the blaze.
No foul play is suspected; although the cause of the fire as of Tuesday morning is being classified as undetermined.
The fire caused an estimated $21,500 in damage. $20,000 in structural damages and $1,500 in content.
Fire officials say the home was not damaged and is still functional to live in. The cause of the fire is under investigation. The residents all made it out safely.
