TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW)--Preparation for 80th Fiesta Mexicana is officially underway in Topeka.
Fiesta Mexicana fiesta carnival and food sales run Tuesday-Saturday.
Opening Mass was held Sunday morning. Services at Our Lady of Guadalupe are held every Sunday, but this Sunday's mass included a special thank-you to those who have supported and donated to the Fiesta, which will benefit the parish and school. Closing Mass will be July 14.
While mass was going on Sunday, helpers were outside busy setting up for the Fiesta.
The entire block on Chandler Street will be covered in white tents, soon to be filled with food standsd and vendors. Across the street the carnival rides were waiting to be assembled.
Residents in the area around the church are taking part too, dressing up their homes with festive decorations, making all of Chandler Street bright and beautiful to welcome everyone into the party.
Entertainment at Fiesta includes a jalapeno eating contest on Tuesday, Miguel Mambo Band on Thursday, La Sombra on Friday, and Avizo with Jimmy Edward on Saturday.
