Washington Co. Deputy Shoots Barricaded Female Suspect

COLEMAN, Kan. (WIBW) - Authorities are investigating a domestic incident in Washington County that ended with an officer shooting a female suspect.

The Washington Co. Sheriff's office says it responded to a domestic violence report around 9 am Sunday at 741 14th Rd. in Coleman Township, west of Marysville on Hwy. 36.

Authorities say a woman had barricaded herself inside a small camper trailer. Officers attempted negotiations and visually saw she had a gun. Authorities say when visual contact was made, the woman turned the firearm on an officer and the officer fired at her.

The Sheriff's Office says the officer was not injured. The woman was taken to Washington Co. Hospital. An update on her condition was not provided Monday.

The Washington Co. Sheriff's Office says the Kansas Bureau of Investigation will investigate the incident, which is their standard procedure. The Marshall Co. Sheriff's Department and the Marysville Police Department also assisted with the response.
