Family, Friends, Senator Assist Family Stuck In Ukraine

A staff member for Sen. Pat Roberts said Tuesday that they are in close contact with the Jenkins family and the U.S. Embassy staff in Ukraine to see what can be done to expedite the process of getting passports for their four adopted children.

(WIBW) - Sen. Pat Roberts office says it has reached out to Secretary of State John Kerry's team on the ground in Ukraine to see if they can offer an assistance to to a Topeka family who are stuck in the country.

Lisa and Don Jenkins were in the process of finalizing adoption of four children when turmoil erupted between Ukraine and Russia. The couple have been in Ukraine since early February, waiting for the government to complete the children's passports. They are told three of the four are ready, however, they are unsure about completing the process given the government's current situation.

A staff member for Sen. Roberts said Tuesday that they are in close contact with the family and the U.S. Embassy staff in Ukraine and are working to see what more can be done to expedite the process.

Family in Kansas and the Jenkins' church, Northland Christian Church, each have established accounts to assist the Jenkins with the additional expenses of their unexpected extended stay. Donations may be sent to any Topeka CoreFirst Bank location as well as any Silver Lake Bank location.
