MANHATTAN, Kan. (WBW)__An expert on electronic voting spoke to attendees at the Flint Hills Discovery Center Sunday afternoon.

Dr. Barbara Simons talked about the security of using paper ballots rather than using the computerized systems people often prefer.

She informed listeners about how computers may be affected by software bugs or other viruses that could change or even disrupt votes.

The League of Women Voters of Manhattan and Ft. Riley presented Karen Mcullough with the 2013 Edith L. Stunkel Good Government Award for her efforts to promote better government.

Stunkel worked hard to include people in all levels of government. Her efforts were honored with the award named in her memory in 2004. Since then, the league has given 7 awards to those who have shown contributions to the quality of life for the community.
