Topeka Exhibit Allows Kids To Learn About MLK While Playing

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - Children can have fun while learning how one man helped transform our nation.

The Kansas Children's Discovery Center is hosting a Martin Luther King, Jr. Day interactive exhibit this week. The theme is "Transforming the Dream."

The theme is a play on words, with the exhibit using the Transformer action figures with which most kids are already familiar to teach them the concepts of equality and justice.

A'Jay Scipio, a Washburn University AmeriCorps Vista fellow, says the goal is for kids to realize the importance of being responsible citizens and looking out for each other. She used the example of bullying for how children might encounter the concept in their everyday lives.

The exhibit will be open from 1 to 5 pm Wednesday, Jan. 16 and Friday, Jan. 18, as well as from 1 to 6 pm Thursday, Jan. 17 at the Kansas Children's Discovery Center at Topeka's Gage Park.
