EMPORIA, Kan. (KVOE) - A popular resident at Emporia's David Traylor Zoo is off-limits for visitors right now.
Zoo officials told KVOE Radio Monday that Sampson the mountain lion has been diagnosed with congestive heart failure and severe osteo-arthritis. The latter condition is affecting his hips and back legs.
He's off-exhibit while he gets used to new medications.
Sampson is 16-years old and has lived at Emporia's zoo since he was about five-months old.
Zoo officials say the normal life expectancy for a mountain lion in captivity is 14 to 20 years.
