The Memorial to Fallen Educators remembers 113 teachers, administrators, and education support professionals from 36 states who lost their lives while doing their jobs.

"I really thought it was important to be here to represent teachers across the country, but specifically teachers from Newtown," said Tom Kuroski, President of the Newtown Federation of Teachers.

"Four hundred and fifty teachers in Newtown who I knew all wish theycould be here. And, I thought it was really paramount that we make an appearance here to celebrate the lives of the educators we lost on December 14th," he continued.

The names of the fallen teachers are written on two black monuments shaped like open books. The ceremony included the reading of the names and a ceremonial wreath laying.

It also features two granite benches and a bricked patio area featuring donors' names.
