Employee Acussed Of Stealing From Company Will Not Serve Jail Time

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - A Jackson County employee accused of stealing from the county's Landfill and Weed Department will not serve jail time.

A judge handed Janette Fund a four year suspended sentence, then placed on four years supervised probation.

Prosecutors say Fund stole more than $15,000 while employed as an administrative assistant with the department from April 2011 to July 2013.

She pleaded no contest to 20 counts of creating false information and 20 counts of misdemeanor theft..

Fund had argued for leniency, saying she needed money to pay her daughter's medical bills.
