EMPORIA, Kan. (WIBW)___For the third time this year, the Kansas Highway Patrol is teaming up officers and educators in order to provide safer solutions to specific threats of violence in the classroom.

Over 230 attendees gathered inside Emporia State University's Memorial Union this morning to look at case studies of past tragedies including the shootings at Columbine in Colorado and the Virginia Tech shooting in 2007.

Organizers say school violence awareness is just as important for the educators as it is for the officers.

Kansas Highway Patrol Master Trooper Michael Mullen says, "This is everyone's problem, we are all in this together. It's a community issue, education and schools are tied to communities. Basically we need to plan and prepare better than we have in the past.

The afternoon session allowed those who attended to receive the proper tools to take back and train their departments after todays seminar.
