LAWRENCE, KS (WIBW)-- Lawrence Police say one person is in custody and charged with a single count of Attempted Murder in the Second Degree after a man was shot in the northwest part of the city early Friday morning. The alleged shooter has been identified as JD Turner, 34 of Lawrence.
Sgt. Hayden Fowler said that officers were called to Dad Perry Park at 1200 Monterey way around 2:13 a.m. where they found a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. That man was air lifted to a Topeka area trauma center.
Through the officers' investigation, the victim gave the identity of the alleged shooter and a description of the vehicle he left the area in. Officers say the suspect and victim know each other and were involved in a verbal altercation before the shooting happened.
Officers located the suspect vehicle around 3:00 a.m. and stopped the car near 23rd & Harper. The suspect was taken into custody without incident and transported to the police department to be interviewed.
Turner was arrested at 1611 E 23rd Friday morning and is being held without bond for Attempted Second Degree Murder at the Douglas County Jail.
The police department says they do not know the condition of the victim, who remains hospitalized.
