TOPEKA, Kansas (WIBW) -- Finally blow the dust off that old computer or printer - and just throw it away.

United Computer Disposal held a public e-waste collection event Saturday at the Fairlawn Plaza Shopping Center located on the north edge of the parking lot by Bank of America.

The event ran from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

A $5 fee was charged for TV's and computer monitors, but all other e-waste was free.

Other items that could be dropped off included:

Audio/video equipment
Circuit boards/parts
Computer monitors
Computer Printers/peripherals
Copier/fax machine/scanners
Desktop/Laptop computers
Electronic Media
Misc. Cables/components
Printer/toner cartridges
Telephones/radio equipment
Televisions/satellite systems

The e-waste recycle event started out as a college project and turned into a business. They clear the hardrives or allow you to take them with you. The computers and some other devices will be taken apart and put back together with working components and then donated to places like Goodwill.
