TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW)-- Two suspects were in custody Thursday after leading authorities on a chase through Topeka. Authorities were searching for a third suspect that managed to escape following a police pursuit.
The chase began around 3 p.m. when police attempted to stop a vehicle near 1600 Lane. The suspect vehicle stopped near 21st and Washburn as traffic in the area forced the suspects to flee on foot.
According to Topeka Police, the driver of the vehicle attempted to run but stumbled and fell. An officer attempted to keep the suspect on the ground and a fight ensued.
Officers used pepper spray and a taser to subdue to suspect. One officer was caught in the cross-spray, receiving pepper spray in his eyes.
Police say they found meth on the driver when they searched his person.
Two other suspects fled the scene on foot. One entered a home in the area. The homeowner was home at the time and called police. The suspect was apprehended.
A third suspect, described by police as a Hispanic male with a small build and long hair escaped. Police were still searching for the suspect Thursday at 4:50 p.m.
