TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -- A deadly wreck in northwest Topeka Monday evening claimed the life of a Topeka man and sent two children to the hospital, authorities said.
It happened shortly before 7:00 p.m. in the 3600 block of NW Rochester Rd. Authorities said that the driver, Brian Lee Riley of Topeka, was traveling north on Rochester when his Honda Accord left the roadway, struck a driveway culvert in the east ditch and rolled over.
They said a Deputy arrived moments later and found two children inside the crashed vehicle. The Deputy performed CPR on a one-year old girl. She was taken to Stormont-Vail with life-threatening injuries.
A 12-year old boy riding in the front passenger seat sustained non-life threatening injures and was also taken to Stormont-Vail.
The driver, 33 year-old Brian L. Riley, was pronounced dead at the scene.
A preliminary investigation revealed that only the one-year old girl was restrained in the vehicle at the time of the crash. It is unknown if the child safety seat the girl was riding in was properly installed.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
