Domestic Dispute Leads To Standoff In Topeka

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW)-- One person was arrested following a standoff at 21st and Washburn Tuesday morning.

According to Shawnee County Dispatchers the incident started with a domestic dispute, and authorities surrounded a home at 21st and Washburn around 5 a.m.

A man identified as Zacheriah Woodward, 22, and two other individuals were inside the residence. Woodward was armed with a gun, according to police.

Officers tried negotiating with Woodward. When talks were unsuccessful TPD's Response Team and Negotiators were called to the scene. They were able to command him from the home, police said.

Washburn Avenue was closed North of 21st and Washburn, and 21st street was closed east of 21st street and Washburn as the incident unfolded Tuesday morning. Intersections were opened back up around 7:30.

Woodward was arrested and taken to Stormont Vail for observation and treatment for injuries sustained prior to Tuesday morning's incident.

The two other individuals in the home were not injured.

The case is under investigation.
