Domestic Call Leads To TPD Officer Shooting Dog

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) _ Topeka Police say an officer shot a dog Thursday night while responding to a domestic call.

Lt. John Sturgeon says the officer got out of his car and was approaching a residence on in the 2900 block of SE Highland Court just after 8:30 pm when two dogs charged at him. The officer threw an item at one animal, but the other dog kept coming, and the officer fired his weapon.

A neighbor said a child was nearby, but Sturgeon says no children were in the line of fire. He says Animal Control took the dog to a vet for treatment and it is still alive.

Officers continue investigating the incident.
