(Topeka, KS) The Kansas Children’s Discovery Center will count down the New Year and celebrate early with a “Noon” Year’s Eve balloon drop at 12PM on Monday, December 31. Families are invited to take part in this “kid friendly” celebration to welcome in 2013. The Discovery Center will be open from 10AM – 2PM on New Year’s Eve.

2012 has been a remarkable year for the Discovery Center. Milestones include opening Phase I of Outdoor Learning Adventure in June, welcoming their 100,000th visitor in July, and being designated by the Association of Children’s Museum as one of three national “Going Wild” pilot sites in the nation. This honor allows for the creation of an outdoor water feature that will include ponds, streams and gardens for children explore and play, coming in June 2013.

The Kansas Children’s Discovery Center will be closed Tues, January 1, and re-open for more Serious Fun on Wednesday, January 2, from 10 AM to 5 PM. The final Winter Discovery Camps run January 2, 3 and 4, before students return to school.

Since opening, the Discovery Center has seen more than 120,000 visitors from 310 Kansas communities, ALL 50 states and 15 foreign countries.
