Authorities Identify Victim Of Shawnee County Wreck

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - Shawnee County authorities have identified a Washburn Rural High School student as the victim of a Monday night accident.

It happened around 8:55 pm in the 5700 block of SE 45th street, which is near DuPont Road.

The Shawnee Co. Sheriff's Office says a Cadillac Deville traveling east on 45th Street left the road for an unknown reason. They say the vehicle struck a utility pole and came to rest on its side against a tree in the ditch on the north side of the road.

Authorities say 15-year old Maddison Naill was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver, 19-year old Nathan Hillmer, and another passenger, 20-year old Blake Hanvy, were extricated from the vehicle and taken to the hospital with injuries considered life threatening.

A Stormont-Vail spokesperson said, at the requests of the families, updates on their condition were not being released Tuesday.

Deputies said they were working to determine if alcohol and speed were factors in the accident.
