ALTA VISTA, Kan. (WIBW) -- A 49-year-old Manhattan man was killed in a crash along a Riley Co. Highway early Thursday evening, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol.

Mark Jilka was riding on the southbound shoulder of K-177 around 7:10 p.m. when his bike was struck by a Dodge pickup truck in the 3200 block of the highway, about three miles south of Manhattan.

Reports indicate that the impact threw Jilka into a ditch and the truck came to a stop on the shoulder. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the pickup, 32 year-old Derik Kesler, of Rossville, was not hurt in the incident.

The Riley Co. Police Dept. is collecting evidence from the incident, which it says it will turn over to the Riley Co. Attorney's Office. No one has been arrested at this time.
