TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -- Curbside recycling is off to a hot start in Shawnee Co., so much so the county may have to consider doubling the number of pickups, according to Solid Waste Director Tom Vlach.
On Thursday, he told commissioners that customers have recycled more than 11,000 toms of material since the program, more than 6,100 tons of which have come from curbside recycling alone.
Vlach said his department may have to discuss picking up recycling every week rather than every other week.
Nearly 10% of all recycled material was unusable, much lower than the national average, he added.
