Crews Battle Grass Fire In Lyon County

LYON COUNTY, Kan. (KAKE) -- Crews continue to battle a large grass fire in Lyon County.

The fire was reported around 2 p.m. near L Road and Road 300,which is about 12 miles north of Emporia. KVOE reports high winds and lack of available water have caused problems for firefighters.

Crews from Americus, Admire, Miller, Reading, Dunlap, Council Grove and Emporia, as well as Deputies and Lyon County Emergency Management are working to contain the blaze. The plume of smoke has reportedly grown to four square miles.

A red flag warning is in effect for Chase and Greenwood counties until 6 p.m. A wind advisory is in effect until 7 p.m. for Lyon and surrounding counties.
