Credit Unions Give Away $2,500 in Gas Gift Cards

TOPEKA, Kan. - The first 100 customers to visit Lakeview Phillips 66 just south of 29th and Croco between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. Tuesday (10/16) will receive a $25 gas gift card as part of a collaborative, statewide effort by Kansas credit unions to Make A Difference in their communities.

The Topeka event was organized by Educational Credit Union and Quest Credit Union, who share a branch office on the corner of 29th and Croco at 3623 SE 29th St.

“Credit unions exist for people, not for profit. With the cost of gas at a record high last month, now seemed like the perfect time to give something back to our community,” said Valerie Taylor, Vice President, Business Development for Quest Credit Union.

“We like doing nice things for people, like when someone pays for your toll on the highway, or pays for your coffee in the drive-thru. It’s an unexpected surprise. Maybe someone will turn around and pay it forward.” said Jennifer Kirmse, Vice President, Business Development for Educational Credit Union.

Make a Difference events are part of the Kansas Credit Union Association statewide awareness campaign. A total of $15,000 worth of gas or gift cards will be given away during the event. Other credit unions across the state in Ark City, Emporia, Wamego, Wichita and Winfield are also taking part in the Make A Difference campaign. More events are in the works for 2013.
