Around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, a Cowley County Sheriff's Deputy detected a strong odor of marijuana while attempting to serve a court summons in the northwest part of the county.
The smell was reportedly coming from an RV and a nearby barn.
A search warrant was obtained for the barn and RV. Upon execution of the search warrant, approximately 200 marijuana plants were discovered hanging in the drying process. Several boxes of processed marijuana were also found.
Roughly 10 to 20 pounds of processed marijuana was located in the RV. Growing marijuana plants were also located in that area.
Five subjects have been detained and a sixth subject is being sought.
Agencies involved in the investigation include members of the Cowley County Sheriff’s Office, Cowley County Drug Task Force, Kansas Bureau of Investigation, Winfield and Arkansas City Police Department and the Cowley County Tracking Team. The investigation continues and additional information will be released as it becomes available.
