Courts Derail Anti-Abortion Laws, But Appeals Loom

WICHITA, Kan. (AP) _ A Michigan-based anti-abortion physicians group wants to appeal a federal injunction prohibiting the enforcement of restrictive new abortion regulations in Kansas.

The American Association of Pro-Life Obstetricians and Gynecologists on Monday filed a motion to intervene in the case and a notice of appeal of the ruling. The group contends it has legal standing in the case because its Kansas obstetricians are losing childbirth-related business to abortion clinics. The judge has yet to rule on their request.

The group says it wants to appeal the temporary injunction stalling new clinic regulations because the state did not appeal it.

Meanwhile, the Kansas attorney general's office says it will appeal the temporary injunction in a separate case prohibiting the state from enforcing a statute stripping Planned Parenthood of federal family planning funds.
